Frequently asked questions

If yours isn’t here, ask it directly — you’ll get a plain answer.

How does pricing work? How much does custom cabinetry cost?

Every project is quoted individually from its drawings and specifications — we don’t publish prices or packages, because no two commissions are alike. Cost is driven by scope, design complexity, materials and finish, site conditions, and installation requirements. The way to get a real number is a conversation and a set of drawings.

Who builds custom kitchen cabinets near Cincinnati?

We do — Miller & Slay Woodworking, a family-owned shop serving Greater Cincinnati from a private workshop in Morrow, Ohio. Kitchens are the anchor of the shop: painted, stained, and figured-wood cabinetry, drawn per project and built in-house.

Do you serve Mason and the surrounding Cincinnati area?

Yes. Much of our work is in Mason, West Chester, Loveland, and the communities around them. The workshop is private and has no walk-in showroom; project meetings are arranged directly. Call 513-659-3559 or use the quote form to start.

Who makes cabinetry for large custom aquariums?

This is one of our signature specialties. We build the bases, surrounds, and access-ready millwork around aquarium systems, coordinated with your aquarium specialist. Very few cabinet shops take this work on — see our aquarium cabinetry page for how it’s done.

Do you build aquariums?

No — and that’s the point. We build the cabinetry, bases, surrounds, and access around an aquarium system. The aquarium itself and its life support belong to your aquarium specialist.

Do you build custom wine cellars?

Yes — cellars detailed like furniture: diamond bins, bottle grids, case drawers on full-extension slides, tasting islands, and integrated lighting, built as casework rather than assembled from a racking kit.

Do you restore or build for historic homes?

We take on select period and restoration-minded work — cabinetry built in an earlier register that sits comfortably in an older home. This work is accepted selectively; tell us about the house and the scope.

Does Miller & Slay take projects outside Cincinnati?

Yes, selectively. Most commissions fall within about a four-hour drive of the Morrow workshop — a preference, not a boundary — and the shop has taken distinctive projects well beyond that. Distance is weighed per project.

Do you work with designers and builders?

Yes. We build from an interior designer’s or builder’s plan, or develop the drawings with you directly.

How do I request a quote?

Use the quote form on the contact page, email dbmillerandslaywoodworking@gmail.com, or call 513-659-3559. Describe the space, the work you have in mind, and your rough timing — we’ll take it from there.
